On May 6-8, students from the UWC Dilijan collage joined to the mission of Fuller Center for Housing Armenia to help the families in need to build their semi-constructed houses and have a decent home to live in. This year the volunteers helped to build the house of Kirakosyan family from Geghakert village of Armavir Region.
The Kirakosyan family lives in a rented house. Three years ago Hamlet purchased a semi-constructed building. There were only the walls of the building. Hamlet built the ceiling on his own. Due to financial difficulties, he wasn’t able to finish the construction works.
“I always find jobs in the village to meet my family’s needs. I can’t just stay at home and do nothing. In 2015, I bought a half-built house. I built the ceiling on my own, but couldn’t afford to continue the construction works. Now my dream of having a decent home for my family is becoming a reality, and we are very happy,” said Hamlet.
It is already the 5th year of partnership; this year, 16 students from UWCD, from 14 countries, came together to work and make real a difference. The hard work they did in Kirakosyan’s house contributed not only to the implementation of the dream of a decent home but also gave the family hope for a better future.
”Collaborating with the Fuller Center for Housing Armenia to help the Kirakosyan family has been an amazing and beautiful opportunity for all of us. It was so nice that we were able to interact with the family, which we were helping because we actually got to see why we were doing this work. It’s an experience that none of us will forget and it will be one of our most special memories of our time here in Armenia.” ~ UWCD students.
