In partnership with the US-based “Armenian Hope Organization”, Fuller Center for Housing Armenia is starting a project in Lusaghbyur village, Lori region. Lusaghbyur has been destructed during the earthquake of 1988. Since then many families have been living in substandard housing conditions.
4 families that have unfinished houses in the village will get long term interest-free loans and, after years of deprivation, will be able to provide their children with safe, simple, comfortable houses.
The Pilgrim Armenian Church of Fresno, sent 2 teams this summer to build in Lusaghbyur. They worked hand in hand with the local community, sharing bread and work with the locals.
They were working for the 9-member family of Mkrtchyans. The eartquake of 1988 destructed their house. Ishkhan, the head of the family lost his arm, his son lost his leg. For twenty years the large family lived in a small barn-like construction. They started to build the house, but their income was too small to finish it. Thanks to Armenian Hope and Fuller Center Armenia they will finally be able to move to a decent house and try to forget the horrors of the disastrous earthquake.
Armenian Hope Organization aims to develop sustainable communities in rural villages of Armenia, through housing, education, recreation, and employment.
