In 2020, the world was hit by the rapidly spreading virus of COVID-19 which affected our day to day life and disrupted people’s movements around the world. After a year of a pause, our Global Builders Volunteer teams made it to Armenia to give a helping hand to families in housing need.
For Barbara Hovsepian, who has been leading volunteer teams to Armenia since 2002, this was the last year of leading teams to Armenia. However, she is hopeful to be helpful even from afar. Her daughter, Lori has always accompanied Barbara Hovsepian on these missions working hard and making a real difference in the lives of Armenian families in housing need.
՛՛Helping to build homes in Armenia is an experience every one of Armenian heritage should have. Visiting the homeland, seeing the cosmopolitan life in the capital and the village life of the majority of Armenian citizens gives one a true view of Armenia. For the non-Armenian volunteer, it is a wonderful way to get to know this ancient country and warm, gracious people,” said Barbara.
Barbara Hovsepian’s team of five did tremendous work helping the Pogosyans from Marmarashen village, Ararat region to enjoy the happiness of decent housing
Over six years, the Poghosyans have rented a house. In 2019, they moved to live in a metal container (domik) and have lived there so far.
Fortunately, in 2021, the Poghosyans became the FCHA partner family, and by the end of the year will move to their completed home. The family is engaged in farming. Bejan, the family father, is a builder. However, the family income was not enough to finish the construction works.
